Leftover Candy

Extra Candy Haunting Homes

Halloween is over, and all the zombies, princesses, and ninjas have changed back into their normal kid lives.  However, their bags of candy are still haunting the house.  As much as kids would like to eat all those sweets at once, the increase in sugary snack can increase the risk of oral problems like cavities and gum disease.  Dr. Versman, Dr. Heller, and Dr. Heller want everyone to enjoy a few treats, but sugar in excess is dangerous. So what should you do with the piles of left over cavity producers?  Periodontal Associates would love to share some ideas!

Candy Buy Back

Although Periodontal Associates is not collecting candy in our Aurora, CO office, many of our referring general dentists are asking their patients to bring in leftovers to be rewarded with cash! The only thing more tantalizing to kids other than candy is money.  Candy is turned in by the pound, some offices have limits, and purchased by the dentist. This is beneficial for the kids to protect from oral diseases, teach the spirit of giving, and often troops.  Some candy buyback programs are linked with Operation Gratitude which serves troops with goods.  And speaking of our beloved military that brings me to how you can give without the middle man of the dentist.

Candy for the Troops

Being away from home can be difficult for those who are serving our country.  Often they are unable to see friends and family, and the traditions everyone loves so much are celebrated while the troops are overseas.  Operation Shoebox is an organization that was founded in 2003 to send support over to our men and women deployed outside of the USA to help raise their morale and let them know they are cared about. This is done with care packages, letters, and bulk shipping of items that can be beneficial to them during their deployment. Our Organization is composed of over 1300 dedicated volunteers in three locations and also volunteers all across the USA that assist in accomplishing our mission, including here in Denver, CO.  Drs. Versman, Heller, and Beckman would love to encourage our patients to not only support our troops but also support your teeth.  So, if you don't know what to do with all that left over Halloween Candy, send it to Operation Shoebox, and they will get it over to our troops! Every year they go through tons of candy that is sent to our troops.  They would be happy to have your left overs!  They also encourage kids to send in letters, pictures, or other helpful products like toothbrushes.

Even though the candy may be sent away, it is still important to practice good oral hygiene to stop the damage from normal daily eating and drinking.  Dr. Versman, Dr. Heller, and Dr. Beckman suggest routine cleanings, regular brushing and flossing at home, as well as avoiding sugary foods as this is the best bet to keep tooth away. If you have any questions regarding the oral hygiene products you use, please call us at (303) 755-4500, click here for an appointment, or visit our website at www.periodontalhealth.com for more information. Periodontal Associates serves patients all over the Denver, CO area, and would be happy to get you started or keep you on the right path for excellent dental health.
